Get a voucher for in-store purchases or a one-month membership at BJ’s Wholesale Club as part of a class action settlement. A settlement has been reached with BJ’s Wholesale Club in a class action lawsuit claiming that BJ’s members whose annual membership expired received less than a full year’s membership when they renewed it. The lawsuit claims BJ’s breached customer contracts or unfairly profited by starting renewed memberships on the date the original membership expired rather than the date the membership was renewed. BJ’s denies all of the claims in the lawsuit, but has agreed to the settlement to avoid the cost and risk of a trial.
Current and former BJ’s members who, from October 1, 2000 to June 30, 2013, renewed their membership at least 16 days after their prior membership expired and whose renewal membership expired less than one year from the date it was purchased.
What can you get?
- Current BJ’s members will get a voucher that can be used in BJ’s stores to purchase products. Vouchers will be distributed on a pro rata basis (all current BJ’s members included in the settlement will receive a voucher for the same dollar amount).
- Former BJ’s members will receive a one-month membership pass to any BJ’s store. Membership passes may be used by the former member or given to another non-BJ’s member. Passes must be used by December 31, 2014 or they will expire. [/list]
